East Mountain Herbs is an online store started in my imagination.
My dad gew up in a large family from the East Mountain area of Westfield MA in a large farmhouse. It was a beautiful agricultural area of town with a spectacular view of the mountain. As a child, I remember the large cast iron stove and the floors that tilted slightly toward the center. The pantry was painted white with beautiful glass front cupboards loaded with old beautiful serving dishes and home canned goods.
The dining room was the largest room in the house with a huge dining room table. I remember the holiday feasts that were fit for a king. The family made their own wine from grapes grown in the vineyard. The cellar held a large vat where the wine was made and it flowed freely at family gatherings.
It was my dream to turn the farmhouse and land into an herb farm and store. It would, of course, be named East Mountain Herbs. The land would be home to lavenders, mints, chamomile, oregano, and anything else I could grow. The vineyards would remain as would the planting shanty just outside of the kitchen door. There would be a tea room and a reading room filled with books and everyone would be welcome to come in and relax.
Then, I got busy raising my own family and the farm was sold to a developer for far more than I could afford. Now, where the old homestead was, new homes dot the land.
I still love fresh herbs and grow them in my gardens. I also order them from suppliers that I trust. Im a firm believer in natural health and healing and think its important to use as many natural products as possible. It is also my belief that we need to save as many of the farms and natural resources as possible for a sustainable earth.
Because I still believe in my dream, East Mountain Herbs will gladly donate a percentage of all profits to The Nature Conservancy and other groups included in the Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition.
